Collaborative Design Practice Task 1

Introduction
In group of 5, students were to be work with an enterprise chosen by the
lecturer. Dumowongi, herb selling social enterprise established in 2019 were
chosen to be working together this semester.

Week 1
The main challenge Irene (founder of Dumowongi) stated were -
- To make the brand more aware
- Attract new range of target audience outside kota kinabalu area
- Make the brand more reachable
Miro Board was set up and started to gather all the basic data that can be
found online about the enterprise to know about what they are about such as
what they sell, their location when it was found and their social media
accounts.
Carried on with contextual research. Created 3 more boards -
Contextual research on basic research on Dumowongi such as SWOT
Analysis, information on their products (herbs, herb salt, succulent, edible
flowers, etc), business partners, target market, target market and more
Brand Visual board to analyse current design of Dumowongi logo,
social media posts.
Competitor Analysis board physical store and online store competitor

Feedback
Well organized and compiled data fast within one week. Carry on with
interviews, empathy map and customer journey map to move on to insight
discovery and problem statement

Prepare interview questions and survey to collect data about Dumowongi
Week 2
Interview with Irene (Founder of Dumowongi) were divided into 5 sessions -
a) About Dumowongi
b) Company Competitors
c) Overall Brand impressions
d) Customer Experiences
e) Design & Marketing
The interview were held with Irene online and transcripted
Online Google Survey were also made to collect data based on new customer
and current customer to find their experience with the company. The
survey
Total 55 participants have answered the survey. The survey contained 3
sessions, first session made to be answered by all participants, Section A
to be only answered by participants who are new to Dumowongi and Section B
to be only answered by current users of Dumowongi.
Two more online interviews were held, Ms Bell who is the current user of
Dumowongi. Ms Winnie, a non-user.

Feedback
Good data collection and research, proceed to next task which is empathy
map, personas, insight discovery and problem statement.
Next Course of Action
Based on the data collected, summarise them to fill up empathy map and
proceed with the other tasks.
Week 3
Based on the collected data empathy map were filled in. Pink notes indicates
in Dumowongi point of bview and Green notes shows in user point of view.
Personas are made as shown below.
Primary Persona - Supportive of loacal enterprise
Secondary Persona - Health conscious user
Primary Persona - Business Collaborator
The insights found were -
The lack of knowledge towards herb salt among consumers
The lack of trust towards the brand due to the visibility / awareness of the
brand
How might we questions were developed by -
How might we enlighten more p eople with the use and advantages of herbs?
How might we encourage customers to interact and engage with the brand
through social media platforms?
How might we develop trust in our consumer towards our brand?
Problem Statement -
Local business partner and young adults who are aware of the benefit of
organic herbs product needs a convincing brand
image with a better online accessibility due to the
lack of trust and information towards the brand.

Feedback
Irene was very satisfied with the presentation and were enlightened with
the data collected in the user point of view as some informations were
new to her. Ms Lilian was also mentioned that we were the only group
where the collaborator wanted the presentation slides.
Next Course of Action
Start with task 2, design solutions for Dumowongi needs and
wants.

REFLECTION
Experience
The project ran very similar to minor project, only difference were that we were working side by side with existing company for this project. All the members were used to collecting data, online survey, interviews as they were all done before in other projects in previous modules and it went smoothly. Irene did not had clear idea of final outcome she wanted but as we showed our data, she began to be clear of what she is looking forward to achieve in the end, and it was a good experince venturing what we want togehter.
Observation
It was nice to see our work would have actual help to someone who needs as my previous research and works had never helped anyone but to develop and to improve myself. The current users of dumowongi from the interviews and survey were also looking forward for the changes that are going to be made as they were very supportive to the local business..
Findings
The team knew what to do through out the tasks and the tasks were carried out very easily. Through working with irene, ive learned that our work could really help her company and she is really looking forward to be working with us.
