MIB
On this module students were grouped in 6 to chose one country and their
culture to be studied in this module. Our group chose Korea and Hanbok as
cultural study.
Through miro board our group started throwing ideas what we wanted to do for
intercultural final outcome and how we are going to study Hanbok.

The first thing we encountered was modern Hanbok and how some k pop idols
redesigned hanbok for their performances. Then one of the group mate showed an
k pop idol group made by a game company which had fascinating music video of
typo kinetics and showcase of the illustrations of the k pop game character.
through this interactions our basic idea was to create hanbok for k pop idols
and make it into music video with typo kinetics and interesting transitions.
The general idea were what if k pop idols wear hanbok as their outfit during
their performances. And if so should they wear traditional hanbok or modernize
it and design the hanbok to fit in the current trends. How far should it be
modernized and so on.
Theme
Revival / Remembrance
Research hypothesis
Combining hanbok traditional design aesthetics and elements with modern k pop
and enhances the Korean modern k pop fashion.
Research Questions
What are the effects of combining the hanbok traditional design elements
with the modern k pop culture.
Research Objectives
To raise awareness of korean culture and hanbok, and to find out if exposure
to the of use of hanbok through k pop could bring positive impact towards
people in modern society.
Progress
Next task was to gain basic knowledge of hanbok. Brief history of hanbok were
studied and different parts of hanbok attire for women and men. Followed by
study of what colors were often used and their representations and patterns
used in hanbok.
The study moved onto k pop of how they started in 1995 and how they became
world wide in 2021, even though they developed rapidly in a very time.
There were k pop idols who performed in modernized hanbok outfit, they were
Blackpink and BTS. As the study was primarily focused designing hanbok for
girl group, Black pink were chosen for case study to find out how people view
their performances wearing redesigned hanbok to current trends.
Two methodology were carried out to study Blackpink
1) research on online communities of how people viewed the modernized hanbok
outfit worn by Blackpink
2) Online survey to find out the impacts and effects on Blackpink hanbok
outfit.
After the research, the reason why we chose League of Legends characters were
further explained. The valid points were league of legends have created kpop
idols before which gained mass popularity by the music and performances done
during the League of Legends championships. It is one of the biggest platform
so majority of people already know about this characters.
The final idea was create short music video to show idols wearing hanbok
designed outfit. The idols were created from the characters in the League of
legends, referring to K/DA which is a k pop girl group idols made from League
of legends.

Final Proposal Presentation
Feedback
week 2
After the consultation we have a more clearer direction of where this project
is going. We did great for the research on the history and culture of hanbok,
but we are currently missing a proper research problem and research question.
There was no relation between hanbok and Hip hop so we decided to find
something that feels more relevant to the research. We need to research how
the viewers/fanbase think and look at it from their point of view.
week 3
We showed our methodology and it was well fitted for our research questions.
We had weakness in our objectives and Dr Charles suggested it to be “cross
cultural design application”, and consider a character that is new to Hanbok
influenced design.
week 4
This week is the proposal presentation, we received some unexpected
feedback from the lecture. Dr Asrizal said that we got too many themes
in our proposal(kpop, hiphop, lol),, we were supposed to focus on only one
group. Our plan is to promote hanbok via kpop and hiphop but lecturers
suggested combining hanbok with league of legends which is more simple.
