For the final outcome, more images of various parts of hanbok were gathered to
be used as reference to create the new modernized hanbok for the kpop
idols.
The specific parts were
Jeogori

Progress
Fig 1.1 Leona & Diana
The chosen character form League of Legends were Leona and Diana. Leona who
draws power from the sun and Diana who draws power from the moon. Character
study have been carried out to have deeper understanding of the characters to
design modernized hanbok that brings out their characteristics.
As the theme were sun and moon, the group name was decided to be "Eclipse"
Basic Pattern
Fig 1.2 Patterns
Patterns were redesigned, to be used in the design on hanbok and in the music
video. The first pattern is for Leona, referred from the designs of the
shield, sword and the head metal band. Second pattern is for Diana, referred
to the pattern on Diana's forehead. The last pattern is a pattern referred to
taeguk pattern which also resembles yin and yeng which resembled the balance
between sun and moon and fitted perfectly. The arrows were added to each
pattern for unity and to add structure to each pattern.
Fig 1.3 Sketches
The first three sketches shows the initial designs made using hanbok
aesthetics. I was focusing on Leona first the so the colors used for the
next three designs used warm color scheme to represent sun theme. The last
design was chosen to proceed for the final outcome.
Fig 1.4 Progress
For the pose, ive took reference of pictures of blackpink. As you can see
there are color changes as I was exploring different color schemes to find
out which would bring out the sun theme the most. I’ve decided to go with
yellow with shades of dark orange and the last image is the final outcome
for the Leona. The color of the chima is in blue as I wanted to express
the sunrise above the horizon and blue worked best to add contrast of the
yellow
Fig 1.5 Final illustration
Leona
The metal plate head armor is changed into geon with redesign pattern of
the sun.
There’s no big changes in design of jeogori cause we wanted to remain the
hanbok aesthetics as much as possible. There are two goruns present on
jeogori and chima. chima is redesigned into modernized version and to add
some more hanbok aesthetics, and referencing from modernized chima images,
gorum was added as a function of belt. Danggi is a accessory made for
lady’s hair but it is added under jeogori which is referenced from the
design of modernized hanbok worn by blackpink lisa. Leona has rigged
straight chima to represent the strong straight rays of sun.
Diana
For Diana I've used same design outfit but changed the color scheme to
match with the moon which is blue. The pattern engraved on the forehead is
changed into geon with moon pattern attached to geon, the way that gorum
were tied is different than Leona to show their differences. The design of
chima is also slightly different, as Diana has more silky texture to her
chima to represent the subtle light of the moon
Patterns Used
Fig 1.6 final outcome patterns emphasized
Fig 1.7 Patterns for Leona
Dragon symbol used in the center of jeogori is usually used for
kings and queens as it represents royal. Peony patterns used on the arms
of jeogori means wealth and honor. Bosanghwa is a pattern made up of lotus
peonies and other flowers carrying meanings of exquisite and gorgeous.
Fig 1.8 Patterns for Diana
Diana has same patterns on jeogori like Leona such as the dragon on the chest
and peonies on the arms. But different design of bosangwha is used on chima
and the sun patterns were replaced with moon patterns
Poster design
Fig 1.9 Posters designed
Posters designed by Sean, to promote the new designed hanbok for Eclipse. The first two were focused on the characters and the last two were emphasized on the patterns to enhance curiosity of Eclipse.
Progress on music video
Reference video
Story board
Fig 1.10 story board screen shot
Story board was built to organize scenes and to see the overall flow of the
video. The typo kinetic animation design and the general aesthetics of the
video were referenced from the K/DA baddest music video.
Progress on music video
After effects were used to animate the transitions and illustrations.
Fig 1.11 Progress of animating gradient
Here shows the progress of animating gradient which became the base of
the video. Lumetri color effects were added to change the color to fit
into different scenes
Fig 1.12
There are total 25 scenes in a 50 sec video and everything had to be
adjusted frames by frames, adjusting speed to every key frame was the
most difficult and time consuming part.
Fig 1.13 Applying particle animation
To some empty scenes animation of particles floating around is added
for visual.
Final Outcome
Presentation slides
Google online Survey were created to see how people viewed about the final
outcome and how people see kpop idols wearing hanbok.
Survey questions
Total 59 participants were collected and majority were Malaysians. The data were arranged and organized in a table and analyzed to be studied.
Based on the response collected, majority agreed hanbok-inspired outfits were well perceived to resemble traditional hanbok and is well received despite few strong oppositions. The music video have been positively accepted to promote hanbok inspired outfits.

Feedback
week 9
This week is the final presentation for our project and we did not receive much feedback because it was well done. Ms. Anis said that our idea of including League of Legends characters was good and acts as a catalyst to bring attention towards younger people which is our targeted audience. It also added more edge to it. Moreover, Dr. Asrizal mentioned that the design and music video has been done well with good details and refinement.
Final Reflection
For the first 5 weeks it was all research and the study of the topic chosen. The country and the topic chose were from my nationality which were familiar. It was good to get a chance to study culture of my own country to create something new but it could have been more interesting if we chose some minor culture that no one really knows about. Redesigning hanbok to be more trendy was challenging but it was fun experience. Doing character design along with the outfit were the most engaging part of the module.
This module were very similar to methodology module that was done last semester. Lots of research and study needed to be done, and had to have a clear objective to proceed with the final outcome. Surveys and research on social media had to be done to find out if we were on the right track with the ideation and how it would affect and impact the audience. Through this study I've found that every successful project were designed by research and study and analyzing how targeted audience wants.
The cultural study helped me to develop better understanding of hanbok of how it developed over time and how it could be develop more and change as the trend change. It helped me that traditional value and culture is important and in some aspects it is a good way to make some changes to adapt to the trend to improve remembrance of the culture and to promote the culture.
