Attempt 02

A cat ripping out of the box was illustrated for the key design. but for the key design background should not be used and it should be in black and white. Mr. Vinod said the cat does not really illustrates Punk design.

Attempt 03

Layout 01
Skull combined with hand gesture were drawn and replaced the letter U of punk. Mr Vinod suggested to try out more variations and reference Fahmi Reza, an illustrator in facebook.

Layout 02
Mr.Vinod said the hierarchy of the words should be fixed. The 'Punk' should be above 'influence in design' and 'All Ripped Up' could be placed somewhere else for better readability.

Fig 1.04 3rd Attempt layout 02  (30.09.20)

Layout 03
The space between PU and NK could be done better and the black stroke could be replaced with banner which could improve overall design.

Outcome

this outcome seemed unprofessional and Mr.Vinod was worried it would be difficult to use this key design for the following project and suggested to come up with a new design.

Attempt 04

Mr Vinod said to look up Fami Reza, Malaysian designer and have a look at how he used punk design and adapted it in his typography design. His work has been studied for deeper understanding of punk design and resulted in hand written key design which was acceptable to Mr Vinod.

After black and white key design were done colored version was made. To enhance the roughness wet brush paint texture was added.

FEEDBACK

-week 5
the key-work design should not contain background. the use of the cat does not imply punk. cyber punk could be used but do more study about the topic to develop more understanding of the design aesthetic of the punk.

-week 6
the skull illustration is acceptable, the arrangement of the words needs to be rearranged for better readability. suggested to use banner for "all ripped up"

-week 7
The final outcome seemed unprofessional suggested to look up Fami Fadzal's work and study how he applied punk into his work.

REFLECTION

Experience

-week 5
had fun drawing cat illustrations but in the end they were not put to use which was a bit let down. it was difficult to imply typeface that easily blend in with the illustration.

-week 6
Punk seemed to have very different style and visual with what i had in mind , had to look up for all ripped up punk influence in design and other punk related artworks.

-week 7
looked up Fahmi Fadzal for inspiration, resulted in writing my own typeface for the key design which was a success.

Observation

-week 5
designing in black at first to see the general design was important before using color. use of color tends to complicate the visual of the outcome.

-week 6
there were different implementations of punk design which were very different but same in a interesting way.

-week 7
Fahmi Fadzals art work had interesting use of punk design in his typeface using different size of the letters and using small letters and capital letters mixed together.

Findings

-week 5
using black and white at first tends to make the design more simple and easy to refine the design.

-week 6
Punk design were generally rough and random size subtle rotated letters. the textures of the letters were rough and often strong colors were favored such as black and colors with high contrast.

-week 7
Fahmi Fadzals work seemed very clean with yellow or pink empty background with texts that resembles punk by mix of different letter sizes and capital and small letters and sometimes accompanied with thick black line illustration. It was different from other punk poster and had trendy vibe to it.
