Project 2B
week 10 - week 14 (19.06.20 - 10.07.20)

For Project 2B students had to choose a dialogue or sentence they desire and make a poster with mild animation that express the the chosen dialogue or sentence.

I chose a quote "Learn the rules like a pro, and break the rules like an artist." by Pablo Picasso.

First design work. Futura typeface is used for this design.

For " To Break" The typeface is glitched and broken to express the word.

For the word "Artist" Ive added some elements and textures to  express the word

Initial Design layout

Added some perspective angles and shadows to made it look like holograms shooting out from the surface.

Second Attempt
for the second with more elements to apply dept and space. Perspective grid used for this poster.

This poster did not expressed the quotes and elements were not expressing the sentence and was irrelevant.

Third Attempt
On the third attempt the words were enlarged to add more emphasis and focus.
The word Artist and Break was redone to fit in with new layout.

Third Poster

The third poster was too messy and the design elements were not suitable to express the sentence.

Fourth Attempt

For all the attempts that I've made had too many elements and tried too much, for the fourth attempt more simpler with minimal design was intended. Gill sans Typeface is used.

Layout 01
Master rules like a pro, break rules like an artist which is to be read clockwise.

Fig 1.11 Fourth attempt layout 01

Layout 02
Master rules like a pro written on the side to give more focus on Break the Rules Like a Pro.

Fig 1.12 Fourth attempt layout 02

Layout 03
Took out master rules like a pro to give more clean and direct meaning of the quote.

Layout 03 was chosen to proceed with the animation for final outcome. Photoshop is used to edit out the letters and to add color gradient animation.

Three composition were made.

Composition 02

Composition 03

The animation did not fulfill the meaning of breaking the rules, new design had to be made.

I went back to the idea of glitch to break the letters of RULE and animate it. Photoshop was used to edit out the letters as images individually, and moved them to After Effects to animate them.

FEEDBACK

week 11 (26.06.20)
The first and the second poster did not express the sentence well and the elements had no connection to the sentence as well. The third poster was okay to Mr Vino but Mr Samsul said this too had elements that had no connection to the sentence as well. For the third poster Mr Vinod suggested to remove some elements and add some background.

week 12 (03.07.20)
MR Vinod was satisfied with the fourth poster, but suggested to come up with more layout for "Break the", "like an Artist", "Master the", "Like a Pro". Three compositions were made and shown and MR VInod preferred just using Break the Rules Like an Artist.

week 13 (10.07.20)
the animation looked okay but it did not convey the message of breaking the rules at all and had to be redone. The poster that was made with yellow R had no reason why it was highlighted and had to be fixed.

REFLECTION

week 11 (26.06.20)
Experience
Had searched lots of reference artworks for the poster and some of the works that i was planning use as guides and for reference were difficult to use for this poster.
Observations
As complicated the work was done it became too messy and difficult to work with
Findings
As i tend to use lots of reference design elements, the design elements did not blend well with each other.

week 12 (03.07.20)
Experience
I had to be more focused on the basics of design principles and making it as simple so that the words could be expressed more directly.
Observations
there were reference artworks with very simple designs which were helpful.
Findings
The more simple as it gets it was more easier to express the meaning

week 13 (10.07.20)
Experience
Expressing the meaning was difficult till the end. Lots of reference artworks had to be researched and had to lean to change them and imply them to suit the meaning for my design.
Observations
conveying the message was harder than expected. Even if it looked good if the message is misguided, it was up to no good.
Findings
Using After effects was really helpful to create smooth animations and there were lots of tutorials to follow to create a good design.
