Project 1 - Self Portrait

this project was to create self portrait artwork that shows and explains the personality. Previous exercises of design practices were to be applied on this task.

For this project, it was decided to go with my pets again drawn together with me as they have taken huge part in my life.

Rough Sketches

Sketch 01

This sketch explains although I am currently not with my pets, In my memories I will always be with them. The elements all siting in the left defines that its in the past where everything stays still, looking at the right side indicates looking towards the future and the present.

Final Outcome Development

Initially Sketch 2 was chosen for final outcome. However The artwork did not seem to go as it was planned.First of all, the background did not really match with me and my pets, the anatomy of my pets seemed unnatural and it was very challenging to fix them and lastly, drawing human is not my strong points and it was taking too much time. Overall the artwork seemed to be boring and not applicable to spend more time to finish it as the final outcome.

Project 1 Conclusion

Reflection

There were problem with time management in the beginning as too much time was spent on a sketch that was never be made as the final outcome. It was fun to play around with the second trial, lots of ideas were tried and succeeded. Enormous sized pets blended in well as well as glowing light and the shadows worked well overall.

Feedback

After the lecturer saw the three sketches she preferred sketch 03. She did not had a problem with the progress of Sketch 02 and it was up to me to carry on or work with sketch 03. After Sketch 03 progress was shown, it was suggested to put more shadows on me.

Final Feedback

I enjoyed going through your blog in this project as you had done quite a bit of research, include a lot of references, writing and explorations to achieve the desired outcome.
Final design outcome : the final design comes across as soft, nostalgic and magical to me. Reading your rationale, I understand the reason you oversize your pets - used symbolically to show how much they mean to you. the design principles of unity, harmony and emphasis are successfully brought out here, indicating that you have applied what you had learnt in the past few weeks into your project. Again you have demonstrated skillful use of the medium.
